Make Your Own Path

I've been thinking a lot lately about applying this concept to my own life:

Tea Time!

The girls and I traveled to Thanksgiving Point this afternoon, for a fun Tea Party (and some camera time with Angie of Simplicity Photography). She captured some sweet, timeless images of the girls:

Sick but not Lonely

This morning, Ella has a fever.

We say to Louisa, "Please stay away from Ella on the bed. We don't want you to get sick."

Louisa replies, "Okay. I will just kiss her. Over and over."

Change is Difficult

I found Louisa today, alone and oh, so content with her (contraband) make-shift binky.

She is still mourning the loss of her good friends (especially butterfly, ladybug and teddy bear binky). Yes, each binky had a name. And yes, we are learning that each must be mourned with full days filled with crying.

Any excuse to travel to RiteAid or KMart is celebrated by Lulu, because along with the adventure comes the potential to sneak in a two-pack... of binkies, of course.

Look-Alike Cousins?

I keep having to do a double-take on this picture of our newest Dalton babies. Because, to me, it looks like my two girls have morphed into same-age kids (and boys, for that fact!).

What is your vote? Is there a strong resemblance between baby Andrew and Louisa? Or baby Jonah and Ella?

Success!

by Louisa

I love my sippy cup. I got it when I gave my binkies away. I love my binkies, but they have all gone to the babies. I've been crying about my binkies. It has been 2 days without any binkies. I've been crying when they're not there.

I'm this big (holds out arms very wide). And I am three. Three year old's have to give their binkies away.

Easter Bunnies & Cinnamon Bunnies

Louisa has a love/hate relationship with the Easter Bunny. And rightfully so. He has snuck into our house a number of times this past week and "stolen" her binkies. Leaving only one sole binky tied to her bed, simply because he does not have fingers with which to untie it (nor the patience to endure a multiple nights of "binky, binky" screaming).

The Bunny takes the binkies to new babies in the hospital.

Only once this week has the Easter Bunny left anything in return. It was a book. About Jesus.

Oh, and He left a wonderful bag of Cinnamon Bunnies. Upon examination, Louisa quickly asked, "Why do these bunnies have nipples?" (Translation: nipples=breasts).

Look closely ... their little arm buds do look quite round.

There is Power Between Sisters

"There is power between sisters. There is a power between brothers and sisters. There is a power between parents and children to sustain each other and, yes, even 'save' each other."

"Consider the lifesaving power in this story. A few years ago, twin girls Brielle and Kyrie were born prematurely to the Jackson family. They were placed in separate incubators to reduce the risk of infection. Kyrie, the larger sister at two pounds three ounces, quickly began gaining weight and calmly slept. But Brielle, who weighed only two pounds at birth, could not keep up with her. Suddenly one day Brielle's condition became critical. The nurse tried everything she could think of to stabilize Brielle. Still Brielle squirmed and fussed as her oxygen intake plummeted and her heart rate soared. Then the nurse remembered a procedure she had heard about. She said to the worried parents, "Let me just try putting Brielle in with her sister to see if that helps." The parents consented, and the nurse slipped the squirming baby into the incubator with the bigger sister. No sooner had the door of the incubator closed than Brielle snuggled up to Kyrie and calmed right down. Within minutes Brielle's blood-oxygen readings were the best they had been since she was born. As she dozed, Kyrie wrapped her tiny arm around her smaller sibling (see Nancy Sheehan, "A Sister's Helping Hand," Reader's Digest, May 1996, 15556)."

"The doctors and nurses had tried every medical and scientific device available to help the baby and nothing worked. Nothing could do for the struggling baby what her own sister could do for her. This is what sisters can do for each other. This is what family members can do for each other."

Overheard: On Individuality

Ella to Louisa, “Do you want to see the character from my imagination?”

“Isn’t she pretty?”

"She’s been laughed at for a long time. But, she just says 'I am who I am. I am who I am.'"

Family Ski Days

Ella and Louisa are learning to ski! So far, Chickadee at Snowbird is the favorite destination.

Louisa loves to ski "french fry" style (read: fast and out of control), while Ella skis with a "pizza pie" and is very good at safely navigating the terrain.

We've had so much fun as a family venturing to the slopes together!
