Read the Book of Mormon

I taught Relief Society today, referencing Elder Holland's "Safety for the Soul" conference talk. I challenged the sisters of our Relief Society to start today reading the Book of Mormon. At a pace of less than 2 chapters per day, you can read the entire book, finishing just prior to Easter.

Below is the handout, if you would like to take part!

"Camp Motherhood." That's the theme for the American Mothers, Inc. of Cache Valley's 20th annual mini-conference. The mini-conference will be held Saturday, October 17th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Providence Stake Center in River Heights.

This year's keynote speaker is Ann Monson Dibb, current counselor in the General Young Women Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. There are also three motherhood and family workshops presented by Emi Dalton Edgley, Jane Ward and Michelle Hunsaker.

A special tribute will be made to the late Barbara Hales and her lifelong devotion to childrens books. The event is free and women of all ages are invited.

"We'll have a special table set up in her honor of all of her favorite books," Weese said. "She was the Mother Teresa of Cache Valley, I really believe she had such an influence on so many mothers and she inspired us all to love good books and she made those available to us."

There is a suggested donation of $3 for the continental breakfast. There will be displays ranging from gift-giving suggestions and meal planning to children's photography ideas and holiday decorating.

Hello Spring!

Image from Sarahjanestudios.com/blog

One of our favorite elements of the early days of spring (even those like today where snow is layered upon our daffodil blooms and tulip starts), are the sweet sounds we hear piping down our chimney.

Each year that we have lived in our Utah home (now 5 and counting), we have been graced with a family of birds that nests atop, or perhaps inside, our chimney. First the mother builds the nest, and lays the eggs, then eventually the sounds grow as baby chicks hatch and are nourished. The chicks love to tweet throughout the day. And the pipes of our chimney enhance the sound so that we can hear it throughout the entire upstairs!

This year especially, the nest-building occurring atop our roof is a sweet reminder of the ways in which Steve and I are working to build our nest and enhance the sweet sounds emanating from the protective walls of our springtime cottage.

First Day of Spring

Today was a beautiful day for many reasons: one being that on this first day of spring, together, Ella, Steve and I attended the 4th session of the Draper Temple Dedication.

We sat in the Celestial Room (thanks to our brother-in-law Monte) at the foot of the prophets.

About the experience Ella said, "I even got to shake President Monson's hand! He sought me out from the other side of the room, he asked me my name, and he told me I was beautiful. I want to remember this moment. During the dedication, I could hear more than I could see; meaning there was only a choir of 30, but we could hear thousands singing beautifully. And the Hallelujah shout was great because you could really feel the Spirit. Today I learned that temples always are peaceful places and the Spirit of God can come and attend with us."
